The “Asociación El Valle del Embalse” was formerly known as El Valle Asociación de Propietarios, it was changed due to a naming conflict with another organisation; it is however still informally known as El Valle Asociación.
Originally the idea of a few ex-patriots, the Asociación was formed in 2004, initially, to provide a meeting point for residents in the Alcaucin, Puente de Don Manuel and La Viñuela areas of the Axarquia. It enabled members to discuss problems that they had encountered while living in Spain and to receive advice from others who had met with similar experiences.
It’s true to say that although these aims still exist, the Asociación has evolved into a strong social organisation and many life-long friendships have been forged since its inception. The membership which now encompasses more towns and villages within the Axarquia, is predominantly made up of British, Irish and other European nationals but all nationalities are welcome.
In addition to the regular meetings, a newsletter, “Around the Valley” is published on a monthly basis; it contains reports, news and articles of interest. The current issue is available ‘on-line’ by clicking on the menu-link above, previous editions may be found under the same section. Articles for the newsletter are actively encouraged and welcomed from anyone within the membership; they can be sent directly to the Editor, see the “Contact Us” section.
Details of forthcoming events that the committee arranges are published in the newsletter up to three months in advance and can also be found under the Events section on the menu bar. They include supper nights with a film, shows by tribute acts, and trips to places of interest, the occasional theatre trip and an annual summer or winter Ball.
The Asociación usually has a representative of the committee on duty between 11.30am – 12.30pm currently at the Friday Market – Chiringuito Antonio in Puente De Don Manuel. They are there to accept bookings for events, answer members’ questions and to enlist newcomers to the Asociación.
For those looking for other activities, there are several groups which have been formed by members, these include a Walking Section, Quad Biking, 10-pin Bowling, Birding and Photographic groups; for further details turn to the Groups page.
Membership forms and other Asociación forms are available on the menus’ Articles/Forms page, the page also includes recipes, pool care and many more articles.
